$20,000 in Diversity Study Abroad Scholarships Offered for 2009

STAMFORD, CT –October 10, 2008 – DiversityAbroad.com is pleased to be awarding $20,000 in scholarship money to deserving, under-represented students to study abroad in 2009.

The DiversityAbroad.com Scholarships are sponsored by Diversity Abroad and the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS) and will be awarded to students who meet the criteria. Students will use the scholarship money to study abroad in the 2009 calendar year during the spring semester, summer, or fall semester.

As a result of the highly successful first year of the scholarships in 2008, Diversity Abroad and AIFS are delighted to double the award money being offered – up from $10,000 – as well as allow scholarships to be used toward semester programs (only summer programs were eligible for 2008). These scholarships bring the important objective of increasing international opportunities for traditionally under-represented students together with two leading organizations in cultural exchange. Diversity Abroad will be responsible for choosing the deserving recipients of the scholarships.

“Unfortunately, lack of financial resources continues to be one of the leading factors that precludes more minority students from going abroad,” says Andrew Gordon, founder of Diversity Abroad. “The 2008 Summer Scholarship helped us to both make study abroad a reality for several students and raise awareness about the benefits and opportunities afforded through study abroad.“
